International Financial Institutions

International Financial Institutions (IFI's) are multilateral financial institutions aimed at creating opportunities for people to escape from poverty by facilitating economic and social development in developing countries.

IFI's invest more than 100 billion dollars in developing countries every year. The money is used to finance projects in the form of long-term loans at market rates, very-long-term loans (also known as credits) below market rates, and through grants in the public and private sectors.

Recipient countries then use these instruments to finance public infrastructure, acquire goods and services and improve the investment climate.

This opens a window of opportunity for companies who want to capitalize on large scale procurement opportunities.
